I Don’t Miss

Your gleeful torment

And the way you upended my world.

How you hijacked my mind and my body

changed me from woman to girl.

How you nurtured my vanity

 quietly stealing my sanity

Tethering me to your words

Entwining mine with yours

A tapestry of delight

From morning ’til deep in the night.

I don’t miss…

the pain and the shame.

The desolate, empty hunger

 or your casual neglect.

But I revisit the spot where we met

every day

for one more glimpse

of my murderer.

Maybe someday I will understand

why you appeared

like the answer to a prayer.

And what you were saving me from.
